Where did The Juneau Vampire come from?

The initial motivation for creating The Juneau Vampire arose from the frustration of submitting letters to the editor only to see them published after having been edited in such a way as to actually introduce grammatical, typographical, and usage errors. I did not mind the fact that they had been edited; the submission guidelines clearly state that letters may be edited for content and space. However, over the course of a year, not a single letter was submitted that didn’t get published without some sort of error being made. The final straw was when an editor removed a correctly used word, “effect,” and replaced it with another word, “affect.” The resulting sentence conveyed a completely different idea than intended, hence my resulting refusal to submit any further letters and instead create a site where I could be sure my opinions were preserved as written.

Well, no. Because I’m a reasonable and responsible adult, I really don’t want to be the messenger of libelous, obscene, or super offensive content because it’s simply not necessary for making your point. I think we all know that there are limits and I reserve the right to enforce my (liberal) idea of those limits by deleting content that I think crosses the line.
