17th Annual Holiday Cup — The Holiday Cup Competitive Indoor Soccer Tournament will be held Dec. 19-31, with six coed divisions: Elementary grades 4-5 (minimum age 9); middle school grades 6-8; junior high grades 9 through age 16; Senior Division ages 17-20; Masters Division ages 21-39; Classic Division ages 40 and over.
Coaches and managers interested in sponsoring a team must submit a roster by 5 p.m. on Dec. 4, dropped off at the Law Offices of Dillon & Findley at 350 N. Franklin St.

Dear Mr. President: Please don’t forget to pardon humans, too
As his daughters and others watched on Wednesday, President Obama followed long-standing tradition and pardoned two turkeys in honor of Thanksgiving Day. The 40-pound Butterballs, Courage and Carolina, were flown to California and will live out their days at Disneyland.

Officials: Oxy ‘epidemic’ appears to be tapering
Although there is no quantitative data available to pinpoint exactly how prevalent the OxyContin “epidemic” presently is in Juneau, from an anecdotal standpoint, the opiate-based drug appears to be less problematic now in the capital than it had been several months ago, according to local officials.

Oil revenues leave Alaska unfazed by large tax declines
Alaska had the biggest plunge in tax revenues of any state last quarter, according to a new report from the non-profit Rockefeller Institute.
