Some Alaska legislators and staff who have dealt with former Gov. Sarah Palin extensively are saying that to understand what went on in Alaska before, during and after the 2008 presidential campaign, skip the former governor’s much hyped autobiography.

Anchorage battles chronic inebriates
ANCHORAGE – On a recent Tuesday night, Anchorage police sergeant Dennis Allen came upon a familiar face at a bus stop. It was Paul, one of Anchorage’s 400 or so homeless alcoholics who chronically get drunk in public.

Jobless rate climbs with end of summer
Alaska’s unemployment rate rose in October to 8.9 percent, but remained significantly below the U.S. rate, according to the latest Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development figures released last week.

Eaglecrest Ski Area crew prepares for opening
If not for the immobile lift chairs, Eaglecrest Ski Area nearly seemed open Saturday with dozens of cars in the parking lot and crowds of people skiing, sledding and skinning near the lodge.

Two vehicles collide on Glacier Highway
JUNEAU – A 45-year-old woman was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital Sunday for precautionary evaluation after a two-vehicle accident on Glacier Highway near Central Avenue.
