Thanks for taking part in Hydaburg’s 2009 Culture Camp

Hydaburg Cooperative Association’s staff and Council, along with the town of Hydaburg, would like to thank everyone who donated, volunteered, participated and enjoyed our recent 2009 Culture Camp and raising of four totems. This event is the beginning of our theme, “Reawakening our Past,” and also the beginning of our Historic Haida Totem Replication Project. We have 17 more totems to replicate or renovate and will continue to work toward this accomplishment.

Thanks for picking up garbage on International Coastal Clean-up Day

We would like to thank the more than 100 volunteers who participated in the 2009 International Coastal Clean-up Day on Sept. 19. Volunteers picked up 3.04 tons of garbage and debris on public beach access areas all the way from Dupoint Beach to Point Bridget. Thank you so much to everyone who participated.

Thank you for adding to Mendenhall River school’s playground

On the first day of school, there was an unusual sight on the Mendenhall River Community School playground this year – a long line. Students waited their turn to play on two new pieces of equipment purchased with funds saved for over a decade by the Parent Teacher Organization and two generous grants provided by the Rotary Club of Juneau Glacier Valley.

Wells Fargo supports AWARE on United Way Day of Caring

Thanks from Aiding Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies Inc. to United Way of Southeast Alaska for organizing another successful Day of Caring, and to Juneau’s Wells Fargo Bank and Wells Fargo Mortgage employees who volunteered a day of service on Oct. 1 for the United Way Day of Caring.

Thanks for contributing to the All Cannery Reunion Dinner

The Central Council Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska’s Elderly Services Program of the Tribal Family and Youth Services Department would like to thank the local organizations and community members who contributed to the “2009 All Cannery Reunion Dinner” held on Sept. 18 at the Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall. This event was funded by the Administration on Aging Title VI grant.

Consortium to host ‘Just Move It’ activities Saturday

SITKA – The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium Health Promotion, Diabetes and Lifestyle Balance programs will host the second annual “Just Move It” day of activities on Saturday, Oct. 10, in five communities throughout the region.

Youth employment program serves more than 100 applicants

JUNEAU – Alaska’s Educational Resource Center and its community service division, The Learning Connection, were recipients of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds (also known as stimulus funds) for a summer youth employment program.

Juneau Community Foundation launches $150,000 endowment

JUNEAU – With the help of the Rasmuson Foundation and local supporters, the Juneau Community Foundation has created the Endowment for Juneau’s Future. This endowment is the first general purpose endowment fund established by the foundation and will serve as the basis for making grants to address issues and areas of high need in Juneau, as established by the foundation’s board of directors.
