Glacier Spur Road closed after bear encounter
JUNEAU — The U.S. Forest Service closed Glacier Spur Road following an encounter with a bear sow this Friday afternoon. A Forest Service employee sprayed the bear with pepper spray after it lunged at him, according to Forest Service officials.
Acting District Ranger Barbara Adams said as a safety precaution the road, which leads to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center and trails in the
vicinity, will be closed from 8 p.m. today and will reopen at 8a.m. Saturday morning.
