Thank you, Juneau Assembly.
Last week, the Juneau Assembly had approved action requesting that Alaska’s Department of Transportation remove the Men’s Crisis Center from the Adopt-A-Highway program. The Juneau Vampire thought it was a waste of time and effort for a number of reasons.
Thankfully, at last night’s meeting the Assembly rescinded this action because, according to Assembly member Randy Wanamaker, “it was clear its members acted too quickly,” that it wasn’t the Assembly’s responsibility to determine who should participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program, and that the Assembly ”agreed it wanted more and better information the next time it receives recommendations from the CBJ Human Rights Commission.”
Thank you Mr. Wanamaker (and the rest of the Assembly) for taking a step back and not throwing the First Amendment under the bus.
