It’s been a couple of years since the old Juneau Vampire went offline, but now we’re back and more focused than ever.

What an exciting time to be living in the capital of Alaska – scandal, mud-slinging, “he said, she said,” and downright meanness, all covered locally the day after the rest of the nation hears about it. Oh, I guess none of that is too new to us, but it seems to have gotten so bad that our top two elected officials are trying as hard as they can to get out of town (not that they were ever in town to begin with). Now that’s bad.

So what’s a rain-soaked Juneauite to do besides rant, rave, complain, whine, and poke fun at all this? For one, give other rain-soaked Juneauites the opporunity to do the same! Nothing soothes the mind and distracts from the gray skies more than writing what you feel and sharing it with others. It’s cathartic and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy to let go of those pent-up opinions.

What’s the benefit of posting those opinions here, you ask? For one, there won’t be an undereducated editor “correcting” your perfectly well written, grammatically correct, triple spell-checked prose into something that resembles meatloaf. (My apologies, I’m still bitter that people who don’t know the difference between “affect” and “effect” are paid to edit letters.) Plus, as a bonus, the format here is about as user-friendly as it can be!
